Award of Merit
In 2007, Design Excellence, sponsored by the Austin Community of ASID, gives Stephanie Wilson Interior Design an Award of Merit for the Davidson project.
The dream: A gracious home imbued with the charms of old style southern hospitality reminiscent of the owner’s childhood home in Georgia.
The reality: To work around the owner’s condition of dyschromatopsia (color vision deficiency) and light sensitivity.
The task: To design grand style curtains with a pure and elegant feel for a large front facing window on a twelve- foot tall wall in the owner’s Dining Room.
The technical solution:
1. A monochromatic color scheme is employed utilizing yellow undertones, a color the client is able to differentiate. 2. A low contrast, large-scale, tone-on-tone damask pattern is chosen that is boldly delineated and easy to distinguish. 3. Operable window treatments that allow for light control are used featuring a sheer for diffusing light and a blackout liner for blocking light.
The aesthetic solution:
A curving soft valance featuring large bell shaped pleats beautifully details this eleven-foot high window treatment. Crisp pinch pleated panels cascade gracefully to the hard wood floors below evoking memories of stately old homes. The luxurious silk fabric has a soft sheen that contrasts with the matte surface of the wallpaper behind it and the sparkling crystal chandelier before it.
